General Motors' recent hardships have put the journalistic spotlight on Micheline Maynard, a Detroit-based business correspondent for The New York Times.


Since the beginning of the years, Maynard's byline has appeared on the paper's Front Page five times, including today's lead article:  G.M. Will Offer Buyouts To All Its Union Workers.  Four of the five articles were written with Jeremy W. Peters, also based in Detroit.

Over the past 12 months, Ms. Maynard has written or contributed to a total of 17 Front Page bylines, primarily surrounding the auto and airline industires.  During the same period, she accured a total of 100 bylines on stories running at least 750 words in length.

Maynard first began writing for the Times in May 2000.  Previously, she covered the auto industry from Detroit for USA Today.
